The walls that don't have broken glass cemented in have have big spirals of barbed wire.Our compound has the former: glass like this all the way around. Utilitarian, resourceful & kind of pretty.
Also, apropos of nothing... The lights just went off at the Royal Hotel (in the restaurant, one of my work online spots). One of the fanciest joints in Monrovia, a fully operational, classy restaurant & hotel, and we lose electricity now and then, like its not a big deal. The music stops, the conversations continue. The Manchester United game has been interrupted, so a few folks are anxiously waiting for the power to come back on, but the rest of us keep talking or tic tac-ing on our laptops. In the time it took to write this paragraph, its back on. Table service resumes as usual.
